message I have to inform you that Mrs. Span is about to become the wife of Mr. James, who since leaving Queen's College has held an educational post in King's College, Bangkok. Mr. James applied for the post of Headmaster of the Kowloon School on condition that Mrs. Span, who had previously had experience as Mistress of the School in Bangkok already mentioned, and was highly recommended as a thoroughly trained and competent lady, should be appointed Mistress of the Kowloon School. Mr. James's qualifications are so well known to those in this Colony who are competent to judge, that Sir Henry Blake had no hesitation in provisionally approving of his appointment as Headmaster, and also felt justified in asking you to offer Mrs. Span the post for which Mr. James had already applied on her behalf.
If these proposals are approved, Mr. James will receive the appointment of Headmaster at a salary of £360 rising to £430 by £20 triennially and should be included in Class V of the Classification Scheme; but he should begin by serving on the temporary staff for three years at a salary of £330. The Headmistress will similarly begin by being placed on the temporary staff for three years at £90 a year, after which she will receive £120 per annum rising to £160 by £20 triennially. These salaries are higher than those originally recommended, but they have been adopted after a careful reconsideration of the original scheme, as being necessary to secure a suitable teaching staff.

the temporary staff for three years at £90 a year, after which she will receive 2120 per annum rising to £160 by £20 trienni-
ally. These salaries are higher than those originally recom- mended, but they have been adopted after a careful reconsider-
ation of the original scheme, as being necessary to secure a
suitable teaching staff.
